Target Leaks and Eliminate Waste
One of the main differences in usage patterns between electricity and water is that when something goes wrong with equipment using electricity, they tend to use less energy. When something goes wrong with water-consuming devices they often use much more water than usual, typically due to leaks.
By tracking water usage with high-resolution data you can pinpoint times and locations where you are using much more water than you should. A good example is the night-time water usage savings that were implemented at Spier Hotel.
By targetting leaks the hotel was able to drastically reduce water consumption. As the site has a sub-metering system installed, they were able to narrow down which areas were leaking, and this reduced the cost of a leak-finding exercise considerably.
